Full Name: Kristen J. Kleiman

But Please Call Me: Kristen  (children may call me Pastor Kristen, if parents prefer)

Position: Minister

Education: BA - The University of Michigan; Master of Divinity - Boston University; Certificate of Youth and Theology – Princeton Theological Seminary

Born where and when: Hartford, CT, February 20.

Family Facts:  All long time United Church of Christ members, my parents, John and Barbara live in MA, and my sister, Kimberly, lives in NH with her husband, Eric, and children, Connor and Gillian.

How I came to FCC:  I was ordained in the United Church of Christ in October 1999, and I served Wapping Community Church, UCC in South Windsor, CT as their Associate Minister for nine years.  Sensing that God was calling me to a new ministry, I began searching for a new call in 2008.  After what felt like a long search process for the church and myself, God brought us together, and the connection was immediate.  Six weeks after our first interview, I candidated on November 2, 2008 to become the pastor of the First Congregational Church.

The most important thing I do here is: Welcome everyone in Christ’s name, share the good news of God’s love, and empower the members of our church to use their gifts in building community inside our congregation and throughout the city of Bristol and the world.

Other endeavors:  I am also the co-moderator for the UCC 2030 clergy network, whose mission is to support and nurture United Church of Christ clergy in their twenties and thirties.

Hobbies: Biking, golf, swimming and kayaking, cross-stitch and quilting.

Favorite Things: Michigan Football, Red Sox Baseball; Mexican food; Cream Horns; Diet Dr. Pepper; and Cheesecake; Pride and Prejudice; Bermuda.

What I Love About the First Congregational Church:  I love the people!  They are warm and friendly and excited about making sure FCC is the most welcoming and joyful community we can make it.

Vision for the Future of First Church:  To have our church be a place where all people feel welcome and comfortable, look forward to gathering and deepening their relationships with God and each other, and are strengthened to follow the ways of Jesus Christ.

God apparently thought it was a good idea, because the position here at First Church became open at the perfect time, within walking distance of our home!

The most important thing I do here is: Aside from my obvious role of playing the organ/piano and directing the adult singing and bell choirs, my most important work is through coordinating our volunteer musicians, planning for worship and special events, etc. - helping to bring people together through God’s gift of music.
