| Sacraments and Rites The First Congregational Church, as member of the United Church of Christ and coming from the Reformed tradition, recognizes two sacraments, Communion and Baptism. We share in the communion meal once a month during Sunday morning worship. Communion is also served on Maundy Thursday and Christmas Eve. Everyone is welcome to participate in communion, no matter their age or member status. The sacrament of baptism is also performed on a monthly basis. Baptisms happen on Sunday morning during worship because the entire church community pledges to help raise the baptized in the Christian faith. We usually baptize small children but anyone can be baptized. You do not need to be a member of the church to be baptized here. More information about baptisms can be found in our baptism booklet. If you are interested in being baptized or having your child be baptized, please contact the church office to inquire about possible dates. Based upon our understanding of scripture and our mission as a welcoming, inclusive, open and affirming church, we are committed to the ministry of all wedding ceremonies for all people. If you are interested in having your wedding at the First Congregational Church, please contact the church office about potential dates. Our minister is available to officiate at memorial services in the funeral home and in our sanctuary. Please let your funeral home know your wishes, and they will make arrangements. If you wish to have a light reception in the Dining Room or Auditorium following the service, we have a ministry that would be pleased to prepare a light reception of cookies, coffee, tea, and punch. If you wish to have a more elaborate reception, we can suggest local caterers. If you make arrangements for the food to be delivered, we will be happy to serve it. Please let the church office know if you would like this ministry to assist you, and approximately how many guests you are expecting. A donation of $2 per person would be very much appreciated. Our memorial garden, located on the Prospect Place side of the church building, is also available for the internment of ashes.
